E15 Ethanol Fuel Can Damage Engines, New Automaker Study Says

Green Car Reports -- A new study released today by the Coordinating Research Council says that E15 gasoline, which contains 15 percent ethanol, could damage the engines of certain high-volume car and truck models.

The two-year study was conducted on eight different engines from the 2001 through 2009 model years, with a pair of vehicles for each engine tested--one on conventional gasoline, one on E15.

Two of the eight engines running on E15 suffered lower performance, misfiring, reduced fuel economy, and damaged valves and valve seats. A third showed tailpipe emissions that increased above the legal limit.

In Brazil they make the crap from sugar cane and they don't endlessly subsidize it, like forever like we do here!

Ethanol is Not good for internal combustion engines or any other engines. Use 100% straight gasoline, if possible. NO fuel from Food! No subsidies the taxpayers will have to pay for.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible!
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Why doesn't EPA get back to doing what they do best -- not shilling for Agri-Business -- and protect the public?

CiVX is right. Brazil has had E100 since the '80s so how come they have cars that can run on this stuff?

You saying Brazil is more technologically advanced than the U.S.???

Gee, engine damage from ethanol — what a unique idea.
When is the government going to wake up and realize that this ethanol binge is an all-around loser??

I do not believe proper testing was done with ethanol. Came about because was greter profit for farmers. Let farms grow food, and let gas be pure.

The legislators in congress have been bought and paid for by the campaign contributions from lobbyists and PACs. I know of no one who wants ethanol, however, congress ignores all of us and makes it a requirement.

abcdMA said, "this is the governments idea of how to save the auto industry."

No, this is the government's way of appeasing the Iowa and Nebraska corn lobby. If you don't support corn subsidies, let your congressperson and senators know about it and threaten to vote them out if they do nothing about this.

And if that doesn't work, run for Congress yourself.

I get that everyone here hates ethanol but I have to ask, since one of the reasons ethanol was introduced was to replace MTBE, which was contaminating groundwater, do you want to go back to MTBE?
