As gas prices soar, Californians test life above the $4-a-gallon mark

CSM -- Gas prices are giving handyman Sal Kalil a very tough time.
“I’m putting more money into my truck than into anything else in my life,” he says.

His 1995 pickup only gets about 10 miles per gallon, tethering him to work – painting, carpentry, odd jobs – close to his Pasadena home.

“I’m not eating like I usually do and am forgoing all kinds of things because of this,” Mr. Kalil says.

For the moment, the average price of self-serve regular in the nation’s most populous state is 31 cents per gallon higher ($3.83) than the national average ($3.52), according to the California Energy Commission. But from Feb. 8 to 15, the price Californians paid already topped $4.10.

The result is impacting people and businesses in the Golden State in profound ways.
“We are spending $90,000 a week on gasolin

Like luwachris says "just stay home"....

These fuel costs are going to make taking a taxi, bus, limo or any other privately owned means of transport more expensive or dangerous.

Bypassing maintenance, no new vehicles, no insurance basically means that you're taking a chance in catching that cab or renting that bus for an excursion.

Eventually if the price of fuel keeps going up, everyone will be "staying at home". Including all of the employees that work for the companies that are forced out of business because they can no longer afford to stay in business.

The cheapest gas in the San Jose area is now up around $4.25. That's over .25/gallon rise in just 4 days.

California is a fiscal disaster, but an easy solution for anyone who lives there and complains: move to another state, oh but wait a minutes, you can't do that because someone is holding a gun to your head and won't let you move. People in CA deserve what they get by electing the stupid politicians that are in office.

Californians have made their own bed, then they try to blame the rest of the country and "speculators" for their problems.

“Good Time Consumer’s Got The Blues”

Everybody's goin' to pay
Said they’re not movin’ to LA
There are a lot of souls I know around
Gas prices to high… Just stayin in town

Some use to catch the freight, some caught a plane
Forget the sunshine, feel our pain
They say this article is a waste of time
I guess they're right, it's wastin' mine

Some gotta win (Speculators), Some gotta lose (You and me)
Good time consumer's got the blues
Good time consumer's getting screwed

Ya know my heart keeps tellin' me
"The price of gas… it’s killin you... and me"
"Ya drive around, ya pay the price"
"Ya sit around, you lose your life"

We got our pills to ease the pain
Can't find a thing to ease the brain
We’d love to try and settle down
But gas prices are not comin down

Some gotta win (oil companies), Some gotta lose (You and me)
Good time consumer's got the blues
Good time consumer's got the blues
Good time consumer's getting screwed
