I guess they don't plan on any long trips with their vehicles.

What do they want, Cadillac's? GE can buy whatever vehicle it wants for its fleet. If employees don't like it, they can go somewhere else to work.

Why is the headline "GE “Forcing” Employees Into Chevy Volts" when nobody is twisting anybody's arm here??
GE is supplying some of their employees with a company car, and decided that this company car will be a Volt. Employees can still choose to use their own car, but won't be compensated for mileage.
Regardless what anyone thinks of EVs or General Electric's decision to buy these overpriced overhiped cars it's still their choice since GE is paying for them (well, all except the gov't tax incentive paid for by all US taxpayers.) If I were running GE it would have been a different choice of company car, but to each their own.

Another bunch of posts by ignoranuses.
1) The article is about GE company cars, not private vehicles.
2) The Volt is not an electric car with limited range. It's a hybrid, that can run on gasoline when you can't recharge it.
3) Where is there anything in this about tax dollars?
4) Or Obama?

The fix is in, and once again the American taxpayer bends over in the form of subsidies for the manufacturer and the buyer.

This is still a free country. I do think that GE should be paying more taxes but that is a problem for Congress to solve. GE can buy whatever car they want as long as they are paying for it.

The production of the Volt should be ended as each car is costing the taxpayers more than $100K per vehicle. GM should pay back the taxpayers for what it stole (and not use accounting chicanery to suggest that they have paid back the bailout funds).

I don't understand how a company buying a particular vehicle as their company car is "forcing" their employees into something. Was it a problem when GE chose whatever car was their previous company car of choice?
They're buying an AMERICAN car, and helping reduce gasoline usage (and the associated issues with sending money to other countries) without their employees having to pay anything extra -- in fact, should save the employees money if they don't have to fill the gas tank (or not as often with a hybrid). Sounds good to me -- more companies ought to do this!

What a load of BS.
As the one footing the bill, a company supplying vehicles to its employees has ALWAYS had the last say as to what vehicle the employee will drive.
For almost 20 years, I had a job with a big company which came with a company car. I was given a choice of just a few different vehicles, and I was told which options I HAD to have on the vehicles and which options I was not allowed to have even if I offered to pay for them myself. As my driveway was only big enough for 2 vehicles, it also meant I had no choice but to sell my own personal car.
This is standard practice for hundreds of companies that provide their employees with company cars. This is no different.
I've so often heard Republicans say that "if you don't like the rules, you're free to get another job with a different company", but of course, they won't say that with this because it doesn't suit their purposes.

GE probably negotiated a very good price with GM, and allowed flexibility in delivery schedules in return. It looks like a win-win to me, and a major reduction in pollution.

It's a company promoting it's own interest in electrical devices. Yes, it's also a tax writeoff, certainly a huge consideration.

All those two companies are doing is 'kissing the presidents ass' big time to help push the EV's which are a piece of garbage to start with. Then later on they'll hit the gov't up for a big loan again - like 'stimulus' Croked business deals that screw the people. If the worker refuses to drive one or doesn't 'knuckle under' as the saying goes, they'll fire him for some trivial reason. It stinks to high heaven that major corporations have to sink this low to operate.

What has this got to do with the price of gas, unless it is a move to reduce foreign dependance on fuel by an American Company.............using an American made car.
GE needs to be held accountable for past behavior and pay there fair share of taxes from 2010.
